Pioneering data science courses with Southampton

Bringing the power of data science to a global audience

CEG Digital partners with high-ranking universities and works with leading academics to provide online courses to a global market.

Find out how we implemented a successful recruitment and marketing plan for the University of Southampton.

What we did

The Web Science Institute (WSI) at the University of Southampton wanted to develop high quality professionally focused short courses for professionals, companies and entrepreneurs, in the UK and around the world, specifically in the highly sought-after area of data science.

Together, CEG Digital and WSI developed a portfolio of six-week online courses to help individuals and companies to improve their data literacy.

Professor Dame Wendy Hall, Director of the Web Science Institute said at the launch of the venture:

"I am very excited about working with CEG Digital on these new on-line courses in Data Science. The future of education is on-line and this partnership will enable the WSI to develop and deliver state of the art Data Science courses that are available to busy professionals wherever they are based."

The current course portfolio includes:

  • Fundamentals of Data Science (Technical)
  • Fundamentals of Data Science (Non-Technical)
  • Data Science for Digital Marketing
  • Data Security (Technical)
  • Data Security (Non-Technical)
  • AI and Machine Learning for Business

These courses are all tutor-led and run 6 times a year.

An ongoing success story

Under this partnership, we provide sales and marketing activities for the Southampton Data Science Academy brand, with the University dealing with all content creation activities in-house. We have so far recruited hundreds of students to these online courses – through direct and corporate channels – and student feedback has been exceptionally positive.

‘I found the course to be very good introduction to the underpinning technology stack used by Data Scientists. The course delivers online articles, short video lectures from academics in the field, peer discussions, online exercises and assignments. What I found particularly useful was the group and individual online tutorials where you can ask questions regarding the course material or assignment questions.’
